Caring for Your Handmade Medical Accessories
Each piece from ClaresSewCrafty is made with care, using quality fabrics chosen specifically for comfort, durability, and practicality. With the right care, your accessories will stay looking great and performing well for a long time. Here's everything you need to know.
CPAP Hose Covers - Cotton or Fleece
Washing
Your fleece CPAP hose cover is machine washable at 30–40°C on a gentle cycle. Use a mild, non-biological detergent — avoid fabric softeners, as these can reduce the natural softness of the fleece over time.
- Wash at 30–40°C on a gentle or delicate cycle
- Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay flat to air dry
- Cool iron cotton covers only if needed — avoid ironing directly over any seams
Extending the Life of Your Fleece Cover
- Wash regularly — weekly washing keeps the cover hygienic and fresh, which is especially important for medical use.
- Avoid high heat — high temperatures can cause fleece to pill or shrink. Always stick to 30–40°C
- Use a laundry bag — placing the cover in a mesh laundry bag protects it from snagging on other items in the wash.
Hickman Line Bags
Washing
Hickman Line Bags are made from cotton fabric and are fully machine washable. Regular washing is recommended to keep them hygienic, particularly as they're worn close to the body.
- Machine wash at 30–40°C on a gentle cycle
- Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or air dry flat
- Cool iron to remove creases if needed
- For splashproof fabrics ensure seams are completely dried between usage
Caring for the Cotton Herringbone Tape Straps
The straps are made from cotton herringbone tape, which is strong and durable — but a little care goes a long way:
- Check for fraying before and after each wash and avoid washing with any zips incase the straps catch
- Air dry the straps when possible — while tumble drying is fine, air drying helps the cotton tape retain its shape and strength over time.
- Cool iron only — if the straps become creased, a cool iron will smooth them out without damaging the fibres.
Storage Tips
- Store your Hickman Line Bag in a clean, dry place when not in use.
- Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can cause the fabric colours to fade.
Mastectomy Cushions
Washing
Mastectomy cushions are made from soft cotton fabric with a poly fibre fill. They're designed to be gentle against sensitive skin and easy to keep clean.
- Wipe clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
Storage Tips
- Keep in a clean, dry environment away from moisture.
